Disaster Services

No matter what shape or form a disaster takes, each is traumatic to the person who suffers the loss.

The Mid-South Chapter of the American Red Cross is on the scene of a disaster providing relief to those in need in the form of food, clothing, shelter, medicine, mental health counseling and essential household items. The Emergency Services Department of the Red Cross has an active Disaster Action Team (DAT) of volunteers who respond to local disasters such as residential fires and natural disasters that may occur. DAT volunteers assist the Red Cross by performing on-site damage assessments and assisting victims with disaster related emergency needs.

RESIDENTIAL FIRES ARE THE SINGLE LARGEST DISASTER FOR THE RED CROSS ON BOTH NATIONAL AND LOCAL LEVELS.   Nationally fires kill more people in one year than all of the natural disasters combined. At the close of fiscal year 08/09 (June 30), over 2,700 Mid-Southerners lost their homes or had significant damage due to fire and had received disaster assistance from the Mid-South Red Cross.

The Mid-South Chapter of the American Red Cross needs your assistance. With the increase in residential fires, comes an larger number of fire victims requesting financial assistance from the Red Cross. The Red Cross relies on the financial generosity of the community to be able to supply food, clothing and other necessary items to those requiring our assistance.
